Shaded Still Life

After two weeks of learning to shade I set up a still life for Art 1 to shade for their final grade.  I set up two still lifes for them to choose from and then had them pick their favorite to draw and shade.

Here are the pictures that I had them draw.

Sports scene  (it had shoes around the baseball)

Kitchen scene

Here is what I got from some of my students.

More woven pictures

I had to show you more pictures of what my advanced drawing class has been creating.  The first picture is the first one to actually combine 3 pictures together.

Unique Vases

I try to make the first ceramic project of the year be a fun one where they can do anything that pops into their head.  This year I chose to have them make a unique vase that was actually functioning if we wanted it to be.  They could make anything as long as it is not a normal vase.

Guitar and Chair

Art 1 did a still life drawing of a guitar and chair.  They were told to just draw the contour with some details.  A few tried shading even though that was not a requirement.

I would love to tell you who made these, but I lost my sheet that told me who made them.

Pinterest inspiration

Pinterest has become a good and bad thing.  I have found a ton of ideas for projects, but that means I have maybe too many ideas.  So I am slowly trying to try some of these ideas.

The idea I found on pinterest was the silhoutte of a face in another face.
Pinned Image

I liked the drawing and wondered if we could try the project.  So I offered this choice or a picture weaving project that I have done for years.  The majority picked the picture weaving and I will have pictures of that when they are done, but I had a few attempt this project.  Here is the first one done and while his version is not exactly the same, I think he did a good interpretation.

Instead of faced he did a really nice deer drawing and put the duck silhoutte into the deers' shoulder.

Colorwheel paintings

To warm up my advanced painting class I had them start with a colorwheel painting.  They could take anything they want and paint it as long as they used the twelve colors of the colorwheel and some white and black.

Start the Year with a Name

Our first Art 1 project was creating name tags using lines.  We started by making our names large on the page in capital letters.  I then had them darken the lines with black markers.  We then used zentangles for some of our pattern ideas to fill in the spaces around our letters.

From the quality of the first project it looks like I will have some great artists this year.
