Recycle those hose

My sculpture class was mortified when I pulled out wood, wire and old pantyhose.  As hard as I tried to tell them they were washed, they still made a big deal out of it.  Well once they got past that, they actually enjoyed the project and created some really pretty work.  They could create either an abstract sculpture or it could actually be something.  I think both came out great.

Pop Action Art

Art 1 has been trying to cover the artwork of as many artists as we can, and that means we had to do a project that was inspired by Roy Lichtenstein.

I wanted to again challenge my students with size so they had to work on an 18x24 sheet of white tagboard.  I then required them to have some sort of action to the drawing.  They could have a monumental action like a bomb going off or something as simple and everyday as someone walking or cutting an apple.  They could add an action word or a cartoon action word.

We then outlined their projects with the india ink pens and added color with red, yellow and blue markers.

Spring Flowers

We haven't had the rains yet, but Art 1 studied Georgia O'Keefe and we drew our spring flowers with chalk pastels.

Cubism Animals

Art 1 recently looked at the cubism from Picasso, Braque and some from Franz Marc.  We then drew an animal on a paper and broke it up into shapes.  We then applied oil pastels to the paper in shaded shapes.

Fazzino pop outs

After watching the sunday morning news show on CBS I was inspired by the artist Charles Fazzino.  He does these crazy but beautiful pictures that look a little like a where's waldo puzzle, but some of the pieces pop out.  So I had my drawing class draw pictures and then pick and choose what parts they wanted to pop out.  We then cut cardboard and put it behind so that the pieces would pop off of the paper.  Unfortunatley they don't photograph real well so that you can see the pop outs, but i tried.

Just a peek

I saw a work of art on pinterest were the artist had put one picture over top of another and then cut in some shapes so that you could only see a little bit of the picture on the other side.  I thought that might be a fun one to try.  Overall the project wasn't horrible, but I don't know if I will do it again.  Some worked better than others, and it really makes a difference as to what type of cuts they make.
